Target Audience

Target audience:
A nightmare on Elm Street has been classified as an 18. This film would attract males who are over 18 as there are many attractive female actresses and some of the action in the film would appeal to the male gender. However audiences from younger years of 16-17 want to see this film as it appeals to them. So what do younger audiences see in these films that make them want to see it even though they are too young? Younger audiences like the way trailers entice them and draw them in so that they will want to see it. With horror genres some people like the way the horror film makes them jump and for people who enjoy seeing different horror films with different subgenres like the various twists and gruesome turns that the horror film has.
In a nightmare on elm street people who wanted to see it but were too young were people as young as 16 which is 2 years under the classification boarder. When asked why they wanted to see the film they said it appealed to them. After we asked why it appealed to them they said the way the trailer was laid out made them see different movements of the camera added a mise en scent and a tense atmosphere to the film that they wanted to see.
This film can appeal to younger audiences by the cast and if they have seen any other films of the same genre in them. For example Kellan Lutz was in the Twilight saga which is about vampires and can be classed as a horror in some aspects. He is also in a nightmare on Elm Street so fans of the actor who are of a younger generation would like to see this film because of what the actor has played in before. Another actor that can appeal to audiences is an actor called Rooney Mara. She is famous for her role in side effects which is a 15 so when people who saw this film at 15 see she is in a nightmare on elm street then they will be ask themselves “i wonder what she will be like in this film” and sometimes they will get permission from their parent or guardian to buy the film for them.
There were two opening weekends for this film which increased the number of people who wanted to see this (in the UK) after the opening weekend in the US came out. In the US people were really looking forward to see the film and took to the screens. In fact 3,332 screens showed A Nightmare on Elm Street in the first opening week. Most of the audience were younger people looking for different thrills that this film offered them. The small minority of the audience were people who had seen the original series when they were younger when it first took to the screens in 1984. However it was not as popular over in the UK as it was only shown in 354 screens. This could be because audiences are tired and bored of the same horror films being shown. The original series had 7 films within the franchise and now they have recreated and re-modified the very first film by hiring new actors to play the original characters that included Heather Langhancamp and Johnny Depp, and they even hired a new Freddie Kruger. This change within the franchise can lose its potential audience by just re-making the series. However they could gain back their audiences by creating new twists and turns and add their own stamp to make it more appealing to different people.
